pity party for one

As much time as I spend on the dang computer you'd think I'd be able to update my blog more often. But no, I spend most of my free time reading other people's blogs instead. Why does everyone else in the world seem to have way more interesting lives and are such better writers writing about their oh so fabulous adventures and their amazing children that can read and write at 9 months old. And here's me who doesn't know how to punctuate and speaks in run on sentences and doesn't use fancy words unless I google the meaning first to make sure it means what I think it means and who's toddlers not only don't know how to read their name in three languages but when you ask them their name Violet says "I'm Lily" and Lily says "I'm three."

Sigh. At least the kids will have a record of how their mama ended up in the looney bin.
"Ooooh, it was our fault." :)

Camping with Roman, not for the faint hearted.

Roman showed up at my door the other day with his mom, Sandy, and his sister, Laurel, two people from my childhood who I never thought I would see again for the rest of my life. I was so excited to see them and consented to going on a spur of the moment camping trip.... Something I might think twice about in the future, for going anywhere with Roman Hunter is asking for an adventure of a lifetime (for us "regular" folks anyway - for Roman this was probably just another regular day).

Starting off at around 9pm, we hiked for about an hour down to the Deep Creek Hot Springs. It was so dark and my goal was to not to slide off the narrow trail down the steep embankment.
Once we got to the bottom, we quickly set up camp and got into our bathing suits. I wished I had brought a wetsuit, because we had to wade through this freeeeezing cold lake to get to the hot springs. The water was so cold I thought my legs were going to break off. Though we had flashlights, the lake looked super spooky in the dark and if anyone knows me, I do not like dark spooky water. Alas, I made it across alive, then tempted fate again as we had to climb up slippery wet rocks to get to the hot pools. And did I mention it was very dark?
We stayed in the hot pools for what seemed like all night because no one wanted to brave the cold air nor wade back through the freezing lake to get back to camp.
I gave serious thought to sitting in the pool until sunrise. Getting back to camp, we stripped off our wet suits, got into dry clothes as fast as possible and jumped into our sleeping bags where we never did warm up. Well, maybe everyone else did, but since my brilliant self brought Londyn's sleeping bag with me (a bag meant for a little girls' sleepover, indoors) and not my super warm one, well....I'm just glad my toes are still in tact.
Hiking back out in the morning was another extreme task as it was uphill the whole way.
By Saturday night, my legs were so sore I could not walk.
Though it was a rough trip, I'm glad I went. It was a very invigorating experience and I got to reconnect with some very awesome people.

Resolution schmesolution

So I'm not like, intentionally breaking my resolutions. I'm just... behind on them.
What were they again?
Oh yah... less time on the computer, more time with kids, I'm doing okay on that one. Not stellar. But a definite improvement. Even played basketball for an hour with all the kids. Kids vs. Parents. Kids won 18 to 16. As it was four and sometimes six agaisnt two I think that is pretty good. As I am also counting this as my exercise for the day, I knocked out two birds. Need to do that more often. Way to multi-task. Yay me!
What was the next thing on the list? oh, books. Well, I somehow keep getting books added to the pile. I just got another added today. The Grace Awakening is the new choice for our Bible study companion at TLBS (Todays Ladies Believing and Serving). I haven't even finished the last sessions book. Sigh.
My dream vacation is a month(or three) in Bora Bora, laying in a hammock and reading until I can't possibly cram another word into my head. That is my bliss.
But I digress... where was I?
Church. Does Bible study count as church? Two Sundays have come and gone since the first and I haven't been to church but I have been to Bible study. Not a complete fail.
Losing weight- I've actually been keeping up on this one! I've exercised everyday and have been eating pretty good and have lost four pounds so far. Again, yay me! I was so stinking sore yesterday (I was a little too gung-ho at the gym) but today I have more energy and am ready to take on that darn treadmill again tomorrow.
Last but not least, I was going to try to do a Project 365 with my dear friend Lisa where you take a picture every day and journal about it for an entire year. So far I have taken a picture everyday but have not journaled about any of them. Grrr. Maybe on a not so busy day I will sit here and do them all at once. That is if I can refrain from my newest addiction, my daughters freaking online webkins games. I can sit and pretend to make pizza in my pretend restaurant for hours. I'm so lame. I would be so gone from reality entirely if I ever tried the "Second Life" game or whatever it is.
Anyway, so I'm not a total failure at my resolutions. Yet. We'll see where I am come uhhh, the end of the month.

Resolutions.

2009.

I remember when seeing a year in the 2000's sounded so "futuristic" and "space-y".
Weren't we supposed to have flying cars by now? Where's our jet packs and Rosie the Robots?
I want a hover board dammit! :)

Okay so my goals for 2009-
1)spend more time with the kids and less time on the computer. (I spent an hour playing in a princess tent with two "puppy" toddlers just now so this computer time was earned :) )
2) finally finish reading all the books I started last year
3) go to church more regularly
4) lose weight, get in shape, eat right (surprise! I have never heard anyone say "My New Year's Resolution is to finally gain some weight!)
5) take a picture and journal everyday for the entire year. Taking the pictures will be easy. Posting them and writing every single day will be more of a challenge.

A do-able list I think. Feel free to get on my case if I start to slack.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....

Snow day in the desert!!

It's so funny what snow does to people who don't get to see snow very often.
In Utah, we had to have the snow up to our eyeballs before they would close the schools.
In the desert, the sky looks a little too gray and everyone freaks out and closes the schools "just in case." Well today every school seemed to be closed except ours. Then about an hour into the day the snow started to stick and they decided to let all the kids go home. Hardly anyone showed up and the ones that did were to antsy too listen.
It has snowed all day today and the kids have been having a blast. I haven't seen it snow here like this since I was a kid. I am so happy for my girls who have missed the snow so much since we moved from northern Utah. Lily is beside herself with excitement and awe. Violet is still not sure about it. She has been admiring it from a distance.
We've made an army of snowmen and had snowball wars, complete with capture the flag.
Our cheeks are all flushed and rosy and our eyes are filled with that sparkle of childhood delight. And how much fun is it getting to throw stuff at your husband?! :)

Off to warm up with some hot chocolate by the fire!
